Agriculture

The Agricultural department supplies agricultural and economic services to farmers and other interested people. Their goal is to supply the farmer with decision-making information that can lead to a reduction in farming risks and an increase in the material welfare of the farmer.

Agricultural Economist

The Agricultural Economist can help the farmer with the following issues:

  • Will crossing over to cattle farming increase profitability?

  • Are my trade branches achieving their full potential?

  • Use contractors or buy own machinery?

  • What should I pay for land?

  • Which crops are the most profitable?

Software

Agricultural Software can be used to simplify administration.

The product range includes the following:

Software Farm:

Simfini

A comprehensive financial record keeping program enables the farmer to manage separate branches on a farm. The program can help with the printing of invoices and supply a wide range of statements and reports, eg. cashflow reports, asset register, trial - balance.

Akkoord

A wage management program that takes the hassle out of the farmer's bookkeeping system. The program includes transactions such as borrowing of money and occurences in the workplace, eg. disciplinaries against workers. It generates statements such as payslips, coin analysis for the bank as well as a summary report for the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF).

Study groups

The Agricultural Economist analyses the financial results of a study group in such a way that the individual farmer can compare his achievements with others. Problem areas can thus be identified.

Lectures

Presentations at lecture groups and farmer corporations.

Research

MKB does not carry out any research, but is closely involved with research conducted in the area by the Department of Agriculture and the ARC. MKB is one of the principals of the SKOG research initiative which is situated on Langgewens, the Department of Agriculture's experimental farm.
